Membership in AAUW is open to women and men who hold an associate degree or equalivalent, or a baccalaureate degree or higher, from an accredited university or college. Those who have a degree from a foreign institution recognized by the International Federation of University Women may also join AAUW.
In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability.
Several years ago the need for another category of affiliation was recognized. "Friends of AAUW" is open to women and men who do not have a recognized degree, but wish to participate in our activities and goals. "Friends" are excluded from voting and holding an office.
